love of the sea

I love the sea because it's full of movement. Not only the water but also the traffic - the different types of vessels constantly moving.

This was a grey day but full of light.I waited until a tanker came along.I found that I preferred working vessels. They were more interesting, visually, that yachts.

With this one I'm looking back towards the Essex shore. The vessel in the foreground is a trawler.

The Essex shore

What interested me with this painting was the shadow of the clouds onto the sea.

Shadows on the Sea

The beauty of Southend was that it was never entirely overcast. There was always some light coming through the clouds. The ferry came along at just the right time.

Looking directly East.

What I liked about this painting was the way the watercolour mixed itself. It breaks up and granulates all on its own. The painter has to be patient.

Beautiful Blue

This is looking towards the Kent shore and features the Isle of Grain power station. I was terribly pleased with it. It helped that it was a beautiful day.

What I like about the sea is that it reflects the sky and is always in motion.
